800 pipes on my 750..... Question...

I picked up a parts 800 a year ago. It has a modified Hauck motor in it. It was blown and the guy dropped it off at a repair shop and never came back, never answered calls so the shop owner just gave the sled away for $100. It had the medium height solid Yamaha OEM windshield on it so I figured that was worth the $100 alone and figured always good for parts!

My question: I took the Y pipes and pipes off the thing today to put on my 750. Every things going great... Until I can't plug the pipes into the 750's can. I thought no big deal I'll go get the one off the 800. Well there wasn't one there. So then I thought maybe I put the Y pipes on upside down. Tried to flip them, no go. They appear to be identical so I didn't put them on the wrong bank either.

So now I'm guessing the 800 has a different can is that correct? I spent 2 hours jacking with this thing today and after all that, it was back to the 750 pipes.

Am I correct that they have different cans?

I just looked up the part numbers. They are the same. These pipes definitely would not plug into my 750's can. I can show you my bleeding hands as proof! The pipes look like Yamaha pipes. They weigh about the same, look to have the same build "characteristics" and they dont appear to be kinked or bent. How can I identify these pipes????

I am disappointed, I thought this was going to be a quick and simple deal.......

compare the new pipes with your 750 pipes, they should be almost identical in shape and lengths.

I was able to use the stock 750 can with my 800 pipes but the flanges on my can were pretty worn out. They required some welding to seal right. Have you tried fitting them with silencer out of the sled to be sure it isnt an alignment issue? As a side note... I always put a skin of permatex ultra copper on the flanges to keep things from rubbing. Let it tack up a little and then install. Im sure someone will say Im wrong but Ive seen on my original 750 pipes what vibration can do to them and this is the best way I have found to dampen it.

I can get some pics but I am not at home. The sled is up at my parents and I'm here for a few more days. I will download some pics once home.

I thought the Bender twins could plug into the stock can? Is that correct? I looked at the pipes a little closer. They look almost identical to the 750 pipes. As a matter of fact, I was being very careful with them once I had all 4 pipes laying on the garage floor because they all looked the same.

I will take some pics here soon and post them. Maybe you guys can help me out on this deal. I'd like to get some extra hp out of this with these pipes if possible.
