Hello All, i'm new to the site and new to sleds also. I just picked up a 93 vmax 750. it was in about 100 peices (and had been sitting up at my buddys cabin for about a year) So i bought a new crank 2 new pistons and two new cylinders and got to work putting everything back together. I lined up the dots on the crank and determined its a 180 crank. went through the carbs which were suprisingly clean checked the reeds for any discrepansies and none were found. So everything went back together without a hitch!! i did a compression check and i have 115-120 on all cylinders. So the big moment comes, i fire up the sled and it starts first pull i could not believe it!! but it has a pop it sounds like an afterfire out of cylinder#3 and i cannot figure out what is going on. My belief is that the problem lies in the ignition system somewhere, has anyone run into this problem before? Any imput is appreciated
thanks
great site
long live the vmax4

A 180 crank needs to be run with a 180 CDI.

What CDI does the sled have? Where are the cranks set? Are they welded? The new crank you bought. New as in from a dealer or a used on that was supposed to be good?

If you set the cranks up for 180 but still have the stock 90 CDI the 3-4 side will be 90 degrees out on timing.

Need some more details.

Hey there thanks for your response,
I bought the crank rebuilt from cv tech in quebec. the crank is welded i believe. I put it in by lining up the marks and it is set up at 180. i didn't know what the #'s on the cdi box are and I went outside to look for it and i couldn't find the cdi box under the hood (am i dumb or is it fairly hidden) is there a way to use the vin # to tell if its 90 or 180?

sorry i am really green at sleds like i said i just had another look after dinner and of course the first thing i look at is the cdi box the number is 8ax-00 f8t31272 2824

Hey all so somebody give it to me strait did i rebuild the motor to 180 when it was supposed to be 90? the crank had spun so i just figured that lining up the dots on the new crank would be enough. using the cdi box part number how do i figure out what firing order the sled used?
