Sluggish Reving TORS kicks in

Hey guys i have got a bit of an issue going on with my 93. Last year i had my TORS kick in twice after being at WOT. I let off the the throttle slightly and then went to go again, TORS kicked in. it wouldn't go again until it idled down. Twice it did that, no more no less with about 6-700 miles rode. Now granted that was probably at mile 500 that it did it. It was running fine when i drained the gas and parked it.

Now this year i put fresh gas in it and it acts like its not running on all cylinders. It is slow to rev even without a belt on it. Not really slow, but not the quick snap it should be, especially with no belt. In the higher rpms it seem to be more responsive.

also now probably 50% of the time when i run the rpms up to say 7k and let off the tors will kick in. ok fine, i say, i bypassed the tors correctly and it still lights the light and cuts spark. so i think "ok maybe in this model you leave it disconnected" so i did that SAME EXACT outcome. it will rev up smoothly to at least 7k but not like it should. let off the gas and try to get back on it before it idles down and 50% of the time it will kick in tors.

I should also mention that with the poor throttle response, i already cleaned the carbs well. (didnt see more than just a light residue in them but i sprayed and blew and cleaned them anyways)

Spark seem good with an inline spark tester, on all 4 cylinders. From what i can feel with my bare hands it is firing on all 4.

with the tors system hooked up stock, totally disconnected, and connected to itself, it behaves the same. Is there anything else that could light the tors light? where are the grounds on this sled, i have only found the one on the radiator temp sensor.

PLEASE HELP GUYS, thanks

I installed a 93 CDI on my 92 a few years back for the improved timing and ended up with a similar problem to what you are experiencing. I swapped out the CDI for another 93 CDI and it ran fine. I you have a spare CDI or can borrow one it would be worth trying.

that is one of the ways im leaning... unfortunatly i dont have a spare cdi and dont know of anyone local that does... i did notice however that the plate the cdi mounts to has wiggled the rivets loose... i didnt see where the cdi was grounded through the place where it mounted but that just may be the problem...

on a side note, what the heck is the cylidical thing directly in front of the cdi that has two wires connected to it? i also found one similar on the underside of the hood near the light

hey man, reving it without a belt on it, is freaking me out..

just wanted to add that..

ohh, and I still wonder about the carbs..are you absolutly SURE all pilot jets, etc are spotless clean?
and if you are/were...could some debri have made it`s way back into the carbs shortly after re installing them and running it?
maybe they were spotless when you put them back on, but have already sucked some debri back in um..

I`ve had mine (and the ole lady`s last year) fire up...sound "ok" while idling, but fall on it`s face when hitting the flipper..sorta a delay, then vroom, off it goes..
turned out, it was just debri in a pilot...or three..LOL

ok guys i believe i found my problem. i believe #1 the switch on the carbs MAY have been slightly out of adjustment. But most importantly, i am apparently a moron and when i reinstalled the carbs i hooked the ground thats near the radiator temp sensor to the tors switch, instead of the correct wire! DUH! everything seems ok now. it still seems a hair boggy between 3500 and 4500 rpm but i am not drag racing so i think ill just pretend its not there. Especially since it looks like i may be parting with it this week.... think im going to try one of those new fangled SRX's. just cant handle the weight and poor range of the 4 banger

I bought an srx last year to try out. I sold an srx this year. Weight difference between an srx and an vmax-4 is not much, 15 lbs if the manuals are right. Gas mileage will improve big time though. The srx I had got 100 miles to a tank. Parts are easier to find and cheaper for the srx. The srx has powervalves, make good power and also cause good headaches. If they arent perfect you will ake no power, or very little. Srx suspension not much better than a vmax-4, and those trailing arms are not tough at all, although I didnt have the best available. Last but most important, my vmax-4 could smoke my srx in a race. That is my experience anyways. If you get an srx try to find an '01 or '02, concensus is that they are the best years to get.

yeah, its my understanding that the srx gets mid teens for fuel mileage while still making 150hp. i actually already have better suspension (03 viper) in my vmax4.. but it is just soo heavy. i cant standing trying to get it turned around in the garage let alone getting it unstuck. the trailing arms on the srx are only weak when hit stuff with them, im hoping that doesnt happen. the guy interested in buying my sled was asking if it could beat this sled or that sled, i really didnt have many answers for him since i never really had a go race with it. most of the people i ride with arent worried about drag racing.
