Guys I need some help here. I noticed on the last ride of last year that one of my suspension rail caps (at the front near track drivers) had broken off. I put it on the back burner becaused I have a nearly complete spare skid here out of my '95 800 parts chassis. THEY MUST HAVE CHANGED THE DESIGN OF THESE SOMEWHERE ALONG THE WAY BECAUSE MY SPARES ARENT SPARES AT ALL... THEY DONT FIT. I am looking to buy the rail caps for a '92 or i will trade you for the ones from my '95 and pay to ship both sets. Any help would be appreciated. Will try to get a pic of what I am talking about. Thanks!

Chris

Figured out the issue... I was looking them up by part # on the parts dealer site i order all my motorcycle and dirtbike parts from and it came up as unavailable. Turns out they dont deal in snowmobiles. Lol. Ordered 2 new ones today so I am all set. After some research they are different (92 to 95). Mounting holes arent even close. Thanks.

Chris

Well it looks like my troubles are'nt over yet here. Got an email today that they are on back order from yamaha with no delivery date available. Anyone have 1 laying around? Dont want this thing to ruin what little riding season i will have this year. Cant seem to post a link that goes right to it but if you go to 1992 vx750s track suspension 2 it is #5 in this parts diagram. http://www.yamahapartshouse.com/home.aspx Or to make it easy...the white plastic thing with 2 rivets. Thanks.
Chris

I am willing to bet I have one. Is it a '92 specific item? I have a number of skids here and I'm sure one has to have a usable rail tip. You pay the shipping and you can have it. Shipping will be cheap, I finally found a connection in this shipping game.

Looks to be. 92 part # is 89a. 93 is 8ax. I would gladly pay shipping and even a little extra for the trouble. If memory serves the one on my 95 mounts with a countersunk screw right into the end of the rail so they should be easy to tell apart. pm me you paypal or your address and i will send a money order, whichever. BTW... I know its Christmas, so whenever you get time.
Thank you, sir!

I'll have to find the old '92 skid I had, but I will look sometime today for ya. As soon as I find it, I will send you a PM, and we can take it from there.

I looked today and ends up the skid was stripped more than I thought, the rail tips are gone. I wish I could have helped. Good luck!

Chris. I will step up to the plate and see if I have something to help you with. No garantees though as I went through this skid problem myself not to long ago, and it too was another member who donated me a pair of rails. So I will see if anything is salvagable as I kept my old rails. Give me a day to look...Rob.

I thought I may have an extra so I went to look (I don't sorry).

Found another oddity.

My 92 (serial # 23XX) and one of the extra skids I have have the tip just like you have.

The proto, the 880 Bender (serial #16XX), and one parts sled I have (serial #12XX) all have ones with a single finger that goes in where your rivets are and a single bolt to hold them in.

The pic is crappy but you can see the bolt.

There must have been a change in the run at some point.

Chris, I have one on a stock skid I removed from a 92. The whole skid is mint, so I don't really want to parts it out, would rather sell whole working skid,

but I can send you the tip so you can ride, and when one surfaces I will replace it....PM me your address and I can send it your way if you want...

Bubba...

Thanks Bubba. I hate to see you have to take one off and then replace it later. Lets hold out for a week and see if someone sees this next week and has a loose one laying around. I appreciate the offer.. but it doesnt look like i'll be riding in the next 2 weeks anyway. The saddleman seat cover i ordered was on backorder too so I canceled and just picked up the one from Scottys Sled Shed on Ebay... which they still have to make. I have 2 on order from Yamaha and they may turn up but I would still like to buy one if someone has one they arent using.

Hey Chris. I was just down to my dealer and he had 3 in stock (89A-47422-00). I bought them. I would like to keep at least 2 for myself. Don't want to sell any but if you want one let me know. Just pay whatever they cost and shipping and it's yours or shipping and send me back one when/if yours come in.

Let me know if/when. They arn't going anywhere so there is no hurry on my part.

Happy New Year, Phil
