800 rods on a 750 crank

Can you run 800 rods on the 750 crankshaft? My 750 rods need replacement and would like to upgrade to the 18mm pin size.

I don't know the answer but what pistons would you use in a 750 that would be sized for 800 pins???

The Hauck 880 pistons. All his new style ones are 18mm so if you have a 750 pistons become $190 a piece. A real screw job and also 800 rods are apparently a little beefier?

OK, Got ya. Knew there had to be a reason.

I take it you have an 750/880??

The screw job comes from the company that makes the pistons. I partnered up with Pat and we had to have a minimum of 5000 bucks to have the pistons made as they are not an off the shelf item. So besides having to dump all that money into the order to get them, you also have to inventory them for no one knows how long

Ya I realize it is not Hauck that is responsible for the prices. After many calls to Wiseco it can get frustrating.
I will comment however that these vmax 4 custom pistons are more expensive then other triple engine big bore pistons I have used with similar dimensions.

We have a 92 (750) Bender 880 here that used Kawasaki T1 440 pistons.

Not sure if that is a help or not.

Good Luck, opsled

Maybe. I assume they are 68mm bore size? What wrist pin size?
Also about 2 weeks ago I was told Hauck was very low on pistons for these big bores.

I would have to look it up again but yea. 68mm bore, 16mm pin. These were single L style rings (might be T-7 pistons).

Preaty sure there are also milti ring pistons in the same Kawi family that had the same specs.

I would have to dig them out of the box (the engine is apart and boxed) to check but as I remember the pin to top measurement was the same as oem 750 pistons. The skirts were modified as those T Kawies were a piston port engine and didn't have the cutaway for the reed. These were mid 70's free air 440 pistons. I think they are stiil available through Wiesco and maybe others.

Here are some pics when we tore it down. This was a complete Bender 880 trail setup with pipes, 90 fire CDI, bored carbs, matched and cut heads, direct oil injection and clutching. Was supposed to run at arond 92-9300 and make about 170ish on the HP.

We might be selling all of it and building it back to stock.

PS, I was thinking these were single ring (been a while since I've looked at them) but as you can see they are dual. Preaty sure top is an L style.

No problem. Forgot to add, the pics of the two pistons side by side is a comparison between a stock 92 750 piston (on right) and the 880/Kawi piston (on left). You can see the skirt mod for the reeds and window mod done to the Kawi piston to replicate the Yamaha skirt and window of the 93 and up Vmax-4 pistons. We'll be digging back into these parts probably tomorrow. I'll see what is on these 880 pistons for #'s (if any).
