digatron on 93 vmax-4

Can someone help me wire up a digatron on a '93 750. Wiring is far from the strong point of my mechanical aptitude. Digatron model is dt-54s.

Thanks,

Rustman

I have the directons for DT-33SN which was on a vmax-4. I think it would be close to same install.?? I will have it scanned and email it to you.

I would really appreciate it Carl. I have the emails you sent to me, but the wiring on a '95 is different than my '93.

well, I guess I really am terrible at wiring. I got your instructions, even went to the digatron website. Still makes no sense to me. Does anyone know what wires I need to splice to and where they would be found on the sled. The 3 wires from the digatron display are red, orange, and black. I have no clue where to go with them. Too bad I couldnt just throw some batteries in the back, but this thing doesnt have that option.

We have a member who worked for Digatron. His name is Mark, and his username is, quite surprisingly, digitrondirect. There isn't any recent activity on his page, but you might be able to send him an email or PM, and if his preferences are set to get an email notification, you might be able to get some info. He answered several questions about wiring for the Vmax-4 several years ago.

Your instrument receives its power from your sled’s lighting coil. Most sleds also get their Tach signal from
the lighting coil.
To install Digatron’s standard power harness, splice the red lead of the harness directly into the lighting coil
wire, before the regulator, using the connector provided. Connect the other lead of the harness directly to the
engine block.
For a sled with a high output ignition and a pulsating DC voltage, rather than an AC voltage off of an alternator,
you need a different Tach sensor. With this sensor, bolt the black wire to the engine block. Locate the main
bundle of wires coming from the engine to the handlebars. Splice the orange wire on the Tach sensor to the
yellow/black wire in the bundle. Splice the red wire on the Tach sensor to the red wire in the bundle. After
splicing the wires we recommend soldering the wires and wrapping the connection with electrical tape.

That's from the digatron website, model specific instructions. I was unable to find any of those color wires they mention in the description. Not sure how every sled would have the same color wires anyways really.

Thanks Shark, I fired off a PM. I have a race I want to go to on Saturday and was hoping to have that thing functional by then. If not, oh well, I'll run it as is, but it would be nice.

Thanks, I did search and read just about every post, still not giving me what I need. Someone who knows electrical, more than likely. Me, not so much. I really just need someone who has done it before to say, find this wire and hook that wire to it, and so on. In the end I guess it doesn't matter if it's hooked up or not, I have run quad pipes without it before, and will be doing so again it seems. I will try phoning the Mark guy from digatrondirect a little later on and see if he can help me, if not well I'm not terribly worried. I just thought it would be neat to have one hooked up and see what it can tell me.

Don't worry, you're not alone. I think I do pretty well fixing things that are mechanical. Electrical, not so much. I put a new light fixture on the back of my barn last Summer and fooled with the wiring for a month until I finally got it to come on when I wanted it to, go off when I wanted it to. My father-in-law is a retired electrician, but I figured it out on my own.

House wiring, surprisingly enough is a breeze for me. I can wire a house from nothing to complete for a joke. I've added breakers to live panels for goodness sakes and it didn't bother me a bit, also put panels together from just a few handfuls of breakers and an empty panel. Automotive wiring, completely different story. If someone were to show me, then I would have it no problem. I just don't have that option unfortunately.

I got it. Went through the 800 wiring diagram and the 750, I knew which wires on the 800 just not the 750. Got it all figured out now. Thanks Carl, and Mark!

Awesome. If you get a few minutes, maybe you could do a little diagram and post it in the tech section. Who knows, 5 years from now someone might be trying to figure out the same thing.

There isn't any latest action on his web page, but you might be able to deliver him an e-mail or PM, and if his choices are set to get an e-mail alert, you might be able to get some details. He responded to several concerns about cabling for the Vmax-4 several decades ago. . . . . . . . .

Yes, that's correct.

This is the email address I had for him when he was here a few years ago. Funny, I just stumbled on it yesterday when I was clearing out some of my old contact information: digatrondirect@comcast.net I don't know if he still uses this email address or not.
