Only mods were crank welding and new head nuts. Other than that she's OEM pure '92. Serial # 89a000-666 on the motor. I managed to find 4 pistons and 4 sets of rings for $160 shipped, not a bad deal I dont think. I had to order 50 head nuts, but they still only rung in at 12 bucks total, not bad considering thru a dealer they would be around 2-3 bucks a piece. I think I paid .22 cents/each or something like that. I'll post more pictures of the rest of the build as she comes along.

I just left it stock. I'll be running aaen pipes and an 8bu CDI so I'm hoping to make up the HP there.

I wish I could but it was too far gone, the bulkhead had issues as well as the tunnel. I have a '94 st chassis that will be the proud recipient of this motor. Oddly enough I plan to do almost exactly what you have done, using the st chassis I'm gonna add a 121" m-10 suspension and then add rail extension to get it out to 144". Should be a good time I hope. I was gonna move the tunnel exchangers to allow for a bigger lug on my track, but I have axed that plan for now. I wasnt in the mood to chop holes everywhere to make it work. Maybe in the future I'll get my hands on some srx exchangers which are better designed for under the running board installation.

ebay, sometimes it comes through for ya. Guy wanted 35 per piston, I asked him to make me a deal on 4 and he said 40 per piston with rings included. I said ok.

making some progress, engine is in but not bolted up properly. cleaned out the fuel pumps, one was fine, the other was real bad. It was almost like varnish in there. Getting a fair bit of cleaning and polishing done, not looking for show condition as I will be riding this when its done. Red loos almost fake in this picture. It isnt so piercing in person.

Skiis were rough to start but they came out looking pretty decent.

Grease zerks installed, also put all new needle bearings in while I was at it. They came out as pretty much powder.

And the chaincase side, looking pretty good! Not the nicest I've ever seen, but I think its coming along pretty good.

and finally, the suspension has found a home.

Eventually as budget permits I will switch over the rest of the suspension wheels to have them all match up, I even think I will add some more wheels just forward of the rear shock on the outside of the rail and a small set at the bend in the rails up front. Rear wheels are raised, they are tip-up extensions.

RUSTMAN! Nice to see you light up your VMAX pipe(s). love that sound and smell let the addiction rock.
GREAT JOB LET IT SNOW! ! !
Did you weld the crank?

So I thought all was good, but a few spins around the yard sure told me different. Track was rubbing against a few bolts I used for mounting the new suspension brackets, I managed to fix that easily enough. I was getting some really bad squealing from the clutches, I figured they were just excited. I mean I squealed a little when it first fired up. Well I got around to making a center to center tool and come to find out I was out about 12mm..lol. Should have checked that months ago really. No big deal, I unbolt the motor and get everything lined up and back on spec. Now I fire it up and it sounds mint. I give it some gas and something aint right, it revs up but this aint my first vmax-4 rodeo so I know she should buck harder than that. Sure enough 3 of 4 pipes are hot and 1 is warm, it is firing at idle but not when I crack the throttle. Weird I thought, maybe the slide isnt lifting in the carb...nope not that. So I pull the carbs and look thru the bores and work the throttle, and much to my surprise I see the top end of the needle just sticking out of the fuel passage. The damn clip had either been installed wrong or had worked loose. I am assuming installed wrong because it snapped back on quite tight when I finally found it and got the needle out. It was getting late by then so I left it until this morning. Gonna re-assemble this morning and hopefully this beast is finally ready for snow.

I was quite happy it was something so minor, I was expecting much worse.
